My oldest boy is just about to begin his science fair experiment process. So far, he’s chosen his topic, which he has named Rocket Blast Off.
His experiment will measure which soda generates the most energy when combined with a whole pack of Mentos: Diet Coke, regular Coke or seltzer water.
He saw a video of someone jamming an entire pack of Mentos in a coke bottle and thought it was soooo coooool how the bottle zoomed around the street.
Note to self: warn the neighbors.
The whole science fair idea hunt reminded me of all the fun times we had in the kitchen when the kids were smaller. They were entertained for hours by a box of baking soda and a bottle of vinegar.
Gadgetology, by Pam Abrams, helps your kids explore the kitchen, using both common kitchen tools and ingredients, so when the time comes, they’re ready to make you an edible breakfast in bed. There are some really cute ideas in this book, but they’re probably too young for my 11 year old. If your children are younger, check it out… I think you’ll both love it.
