If you’ve been reading a while, you know about my trip to the landfill detailed here and the subsequent purchase of a ceramic compost crock. It’s a fantastic design with a charcoal filter that really does control the smell. The only problem we’re had with it is what I’ll call user error, meaning we’re left it full of fruit and gone out of town. Do not do that. You will come back to an infestation of disgustingness.
We have had another issue with it though, an issue called boys. The boys, being as wonderfully helpful as they are, sometimes take the compost crock outside to the compost bin. The crockery is glued together in a number of places – after being dropped, accidentally of course, on the ceramic tile. We’re almost ready for a replacement and I think it will be this stainless (unbreakable) one. All the benefits of the pretty ceramic one, with the added benefit of being drop-proof.
