I know this doesn’t seem like an exciting gift, but just go with me here.  This cutting board ($10) is really durable with stain- and odor-resistant construction as well as high sides to contain juices of whatever mess you’re cutting.  OK, that’s still a boring cutting board, but you could bake a nice batch of cookies or even easier, make some peppermint bark and pile a mountain on top of this cutting board, wrap it in clear plastic wrap and add a huge bow.  Nice, festive and not very expensive.
